Welcoming a baby into this world and starting a family is a rewarding experience. It is devastating when couples realize that they might not be able to start a family naturally. Thanks to developments in science and technology, there are multiple options for such couples to fulfill their dreams of having a baby. This includes procedures like intrauterine insemination (IUI), in-vitro fertilization (IVF), etc.

The Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) guidelines 2022 list the various parameters that have to be followed for embryo adoption/embryo donation. In India, only closed embryo adoption/embryo is allowed where there is minimal contact between the donor and the adoptive families. The consent of the donors is taken before donating the embryos to another couple. Though the genetic material of these embryos is of the donor parents, the adoptive parents hold the legal rights over the children born via embryo adoption/embryo donation.
